Parkway Independent Ethics Committee (PIEC) is appointed by Parkway Hospitals Singapore Pte Ltd (PHSPL) to carry out review, approval and monitoring of human biomedical research (HBR) for PHSPL-affiliated medical centres, namely Gleneagles Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre and Parkway East Medical Centre.
In addition to that, PIEC recognises that valuable HBR is also carried out by other healthcare professionals in private practice and scientists/researchers employed by organisations in the private sector with no formal affiliation with PHSPL. These applicants may apply to PIEC to provide oversight to their HBRs in the absence of an Institutional Review Board (IRB) within their institutions and where there is no legal affiliations with any other IRBs in Singapore that precludes the institutions from submission to PIEC.
PIEC is committed to protect the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects involved in research studies. PIEC reviews and approves / provides favourable opinion on research protocol, suitability of the investigator(s), facilities and methods and material to be used in obtaining and documenting informed consent of the human research subjects.
